Tiger Woods announced, via his Facebook page, that he will return to action next weekend at the Quicken Loans National.
Do not be fooled by this “I will be a bit rusty” or “I want to play myself back into competitive shape” nonsense. It has been well-documented that this man only plays to win. If he’s teeing it up, he FULLY believes he can and will win.
Tiger has been sidelined since back surgery in April. There has been much speculation that he would miss the remainder of the year; that speculation is thus proved wrong. Suck it, speculators.
Golf has DESPERATELY missed Tiger. This past weekend’s U.S. Open saw a SEVENTY PERCENT ratings drop. The Masters, in April, saw its worst ratings since’s Phil’s extremely athletic leap in 2004.
After winning 5 times last year and easily scooping up Player-of-the-Year honors from the PGA Tour, Tiger has struggled this season. He has played himself into contention a few times, but faltered on Sundays to no noteworthy finishes.
Let’s all hope next weekend is different. Tiger is back. Golf is back. The boys are back. Let’s do this.
