This afternoon, Staff Sergeant Ryan Pitts (US Army) became the ninth living recipient of the Medal of Honor. The medal was awarded for actions during the Battle of Wanat in eastern Afghanistan in 2008. During a Taliban attack in which many of his comrades were killed, Pitts defended his position while wounded until reinforcements could make their way to the outpost.
Staff Sergeant Pitts, now 28 years old and no longer in the Army, currently lives in New Hampshire with his wife and his one year old son, Lucas.
