Yep. That’s right. At the center of freedom and democracy, it is illegal to sled down a hill.
A U.S. Congresswoman, Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton of DC, has called for DC police to lift the sledding ban on Capitol Hill for this weekend. The ban — which is waiting a further, more formal review — is being enforced under this regulation:
“No person shall coast or slide a sled within Capitol Grounds.”
In a plea to police to institute a temporary lifting of the ban, Rep. Norton wrote, “This is a one-time waiver that will allow D.C. kids to sled while we await a more formal review of the ban, which will likely come after the last snow has fallen in our region. Have a heart, Mr. Larkin, a kid’s heart that is.”
This request comes as DC braces for its biggest snowstorm of the year, expecting 6-10 inches through Thursday.
The Congresswoman’s full letter, which is very formal and cool-looking, can be read below.
PS – People are actually just breaking the law and sledding, which is nice to see. Nothing like a little revolution to get you through winter’s homestretch.
